How to De-Seed a Pomegranate
Slice pomegranate in half crosswise. Make a small slit throught the pomegranate's skin at the edge of the cut surface at four points around the cut surface. Turn the pomegranate cut surface down in the palm of your hand over a bowl. Pound the pomegranate with a large metal spoon, allowing the seeds to fall into your hand. Repeat with the other half.

Char Peeling Tomatos
Forget about the classic method of scoring, boiling, plunging in ice water, etc. etc. Just turn on your gas stove, hold the tomato with tongs over the flame until the skin chars lightly and splits, set aside to cool, then peel. It is easier, faster, and gives the tomato a nice roasty flavor.

Quick Trick for Better Searing
Anytime I buy cut meat or fish from the supermarket, before I cook it, I dry the surface with paper towels, then season, and sear. Removing the moisture from the surface helps the meat to sear nicer and brown more easily. It also helps minimize sticking and splattering wether on the grill or in a pan. Works for tofu, too.

Coffee Candle Holders
I like to fill a nice glass container with coffee beans and use it as a candle holder for a dessert table. P.s. Love youre site.

Another Way to Strain Your Yogurt Cheese
I tried your recipe for the homemade cheese and it came out great, but I strained it differently. I didn't have the cheesecloth called for in the recipe so I used a large coffee filter and putting into a coffee filter holder made it easy.

Functional Centerpiece for Asian Dinner
I put live potted basil and mint plants on the table. I cover the dirt with uncooked tapioca pearls and I then wrap the pots with various colors of cloths. My guests pluck the leaves to wrap up with their springrolls. Everyone is impressed by the herb's intense flavor, being freshly plucked.

Take the Tears Out of Onions
Take the skin off the onion, then soak the whole peeled onion in a bowl or cup of warm water for 1 minute. Dry onion off with a handy paper towel and use in your favorite recipe. Helps take away those stingy tears.

Quick Vegetable Thread Garnish
Use your vegetable peeler to get long thin slices of carrots, beets, and daikon. Cut the slices down to three inches long. Julienne the slices and soak in ice water until they curl and get crisp. They can garnish almost any Asian dish and are better tasting if tossed in a quick vinaigrette.
-- Jayson, Saratoga, California

Non Stick Measuring of Cream Cheese
When I make cheesecake I rub the inside of my measuring cup with a touch of oil before packing in the cream cheese, then it just pops right out of the measuring cup without sticking.
